Welcome to the story of Ruby-Gordon, a furniture and mattress retailer that has been serving the Rochester, NY area since 1936. This family-owned business has a rich history, filled with hard work, dedication, and passion for providing quality home furnishings to its customers. Fast forward nearly 90 years, and the Ruby-Gordon family still proudly serves the residents of Upstate New York. Today, under the leadership of 3rd Generation Owners and Operators, Aaron and Janetta Ruby.
Where it all began...
In 1936, Frank Ruby opened a small furniture store with big potential in downtown Rochester. Six years later, Frank decided to partner with a man who shared his passion for furniture, Ted Gordon. That's how Ruby-Gordon was born.
A retail store in the suburbs
In the 1960s, Frank's son, Ray Ruby came home after being drafted to help with the family business. Downtown was redeveloping and there was no available city real-estate left, so Ray had a unique idea. Ray decided to move the store to Henrietta, making it one of the first retail locations in Monroe County to move to the suburbs.
Third generation ownership
In 2015, Ruby-Gordon was acquired by its current owner, Aaron Ruby, who is the grandson of the company's founder. Under Aaron's leadership, the company has continued to thrive and expand. In 2017, Ruby-Gordon opened a second store, a new 36,000 square foot showroom in Greece NY.
The Evolution of Ruby-Gordon
Ruby-Gordon's reputation for quality products and exceptional customer service grew quickly, and the company became a household name in the Rochester area.
Today, under the leadership of 3rd Generation Owners and Operators, Aaron and Janetta Ruby, Ruby-Gordon is the largest, privately owned furniture store in Monroe County. Under their leadership, Ruby-Gordon continues to provide customers with the best furniture and mattress shopping experience in the area. The family has been honored to grow the business into two locations, opening up a second store in Greece, New York in 2017. Although we have grown and continue to look toward the future – we still remain a proud, local family business.
